Buncombe County man wins $100,000 jackpot

Eddie Sasser of Arden took a chance on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won a $100,000 prize.

Sasser bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket for the May 29 drawing using Online Play. The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 962,598.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Thursday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,500.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Friday’s jackpot is $100,000.

Congrats. However, I think it’s crazy NC hasn’t dropped a quad in almost 3 years and other states have dropped multiple times. I know the house wins but this is just stupid!NC Lottery

Our drawings are independent events, so the results of previous drawings have no bearing on the results of future draws. A combination could have been drawn yesterday, last year, or never, and the odds of it being drawn again today would still be 1 in 1,000. We hope your favorite number hits soon!
