Franklin County man collects $100,000 scratch-off win

James Hinton of Louisburg tried his luck on a $20 scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 prize.

Hinton bought his lucky $2,000,000 Riches ticket from R&R Food Mart on Brantleytown Road in Zebulon.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,506.

The $2,000,000 Riches game debuted in May 2023 with four $2 million top prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million prizes and two $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Hi Shirley, The odds of a particular triple (0-0-0) coming out in a North Carolina drawing are the same as in a Pick 3 drawing anywhere else -- exactly 1 in 1,000. Those odds never change, no matter how recently or long ago a triple came out. We love it when popular numbers come up at random, because that means our players win a bunch of prizes! But for draw games to be fair, every number has to have the same chance of being drawn.

That's one of the things people don't pay attention to...when a new game comes out, big prizes be hitting right, then it stops until the game gets close to being done, then they put the rest of the big ones out...am I right... congrats too you Mr Hinton, enjoy

Wow, congratulations on your big win! Guess I need to start buying higher amount on tickets. A 5.00 dollar scratch off, just ain't winning it for me. Think I'll try some 10's and 20 dollar tickets to see how that works. Wish me luck!
