Forsyth County man enjoys $1.13 million Fast Play jackpot win

Stephen Smith of Pfafftown tried his luck on a $20 Fast Play ticket and won a $1,136,065 jackpot.

The jackpot represents the second largest prize won in Fast Play history.

Smith bought his lucky $20 Max W!n ticket on March 2 from the Quality Mart on Yadkinville Road in Pfafftown. At the time of his purchase, the jackpot stood at $936,065. Since Smith bought a $20 ticket, he received 100% of the progressive jackpot plus $200,000.

He arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $815,132.

Fast Play features an instantly growing jackpot that increases with every ticket sold until it is won. As of Tuesday morning, the Fast Play jackpot stands at $148,000 and counting.

Hi, Dwon! Scratch-offs with $1 million+ top prizes offer annuity or lump sum payment options for those top prizes. The difference between the lump sum and annuity amounts accounts for the interest that would be earned and used to pay off the prize over the 20 years of annuity payments. Fast Play progressive jackpots grow from sales as players purchase tickets, and do not have an annuity option. We only withhold the minimum required tax amount: 24% for federal taxes for prizes over $5,000, and 4.25% state taxes for prizes over $600. We also withhold this tax amount for scratch-off prizes, but the difference you're seeing in amounts would be due to the annuity vs. lump sum payment options.
