When Dennis Parks of Carthage arrived at the lottery’s Greensboro Regional Office & Claim Center to claim a $50,000 scratch-off prize on Monday, he had no idea he would leave with a $100,000 Keno ticket too.
“It was just my day I guess,” he laughed.
While Parks, a military veteran, waited to claim a $50,000 prize on a Merry Multiplier scratch-off at the office on Oak Branch Drive in Greensboro, his daughter purchased a Keno ticket for him.
“She bought the ticket for me for my birthday,” Parks said. “It was my 81st birthday on Monday.”
Carolina Keno lets you choose how many numbers, or spots, you play and your choice determines your odds and the prize you play for. Parks’ big win came when he matched all 10 numbers in the 10 Spot game to win the $100,000 top prize.
“This is going to make things a whole lot easier for us now,” Parks said.
He claimed his $100,000 prize on Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,751.
He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and take a family trip to Ohio.
